About the Event
Discover the simplicity of Japanese Shibori style dyeing, but with fiber reactive dyes which are safe for home use and available in a wide range of colors. You can create stunning hand dyed looks with a few simple tools and techniques. Only plant fibers (cellulosic) will work with these dyes, so think cotton, rayon, bamboo, linen, denim, etc. we will work on two small projects and dye them in class; students will take projects home to cure and wash. Handouts included for take-home use.
Location: CLE Lecture Hall
Presenter: Jessica Kaufman first learned to teach batik, tie-dye, and shibori while working at Gwynn Valley Camp in the early 2000's. She was hired to head up the crafts program and was so inspired that she decided to earn a master's degree in Crafts Education at Prescott College in Arizona (2008). She also has an undergraduate degree in teaching theatre arts, which means that she can give you an entertaining, in depth, and well-paced course full of insight and experience.
